Isometric graph paper is often used in technical illustration, architectural drawing and drafting. In drafting, orthographic technical specs show the front, side and top views of the drawing, which are then projected onto isometric paper to get a psuedo-3D look at the object. For artists, doodle on isometric paper can be really fun. Since you don’t have to worry about perspective, you can create all sort of elaborate scenes that otherwise might have been challenging.

Isometric projection is a type of parallel projection. Other types of parallel projection include dimetric projection and trimetric projection.
