Pen and paper games, aka pencil and paper games, continue to be a fun and free diversion. Despite the glamorous immersion of modern day computer games, sometimes it’s nice to return to a tangible classic. So grab a friend, turn on your printer, and download any of the printable pen and paper games below. Choose from Tic Tac Toe, Dots and Boxes, and Hangman.
Pen and Paper Games
Tic Tac Toe
Here’s a hint for winning at tic-tac-toe: Go first. If both players really understand how this game works, no one will ever win. That’s why this game is the most fun when playing against younger siblings and children.

Dots and Boxes
This is my favorite pencil and paper game. The rules are simple and you can win if your eye is sharper than your opponents’.

Hangman
A fun word guessing game. When I was a child, we used to play this on a white board during swim team practice. If we guessed the phrase chosen by the coach, we only had to swim 8 laps as a warm down. If we lost, our warm down was 16 laps.
